Hellenic Ornithological Society
Hellenic Ornithological Society is a conservation non-governmental organization for the protection of wild birds and their habitats in Greece. It was founded in 1982 and its mission is to ensure a sustainable natural environment for birds and people.
Its work includes a wide range of actions; from protection and research, through education, raising of public awareness and policy making. Objectives:
- Research on birds and their habitats, in order to implement actions of protection and conservation,
- Raising of public awareness as to the natural environment, through environmental education and campaigning for crucial environmental issues,
- Site intervention and policy making for crucial environmental issues
MOm
In May 1988, a team of talented young biology graduates from the University of Athens decides to study the barely known Mediterranean Monk Seal. The first important outcome was the foundation of MOm/ The Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal.dealing with monk seals and the sea in total, MOm acts locally and nationally, it materializes research, information, and training actions, creates alliances, and promotes the protection of the species and the Greek seas in national and international political agenda.
ARCHELON
Since 1983, the primary objective of ARCHELON, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece has been to protect the sea turtles and their habitats in Greece through monitoring and research, developing and implementing management plans, habitat restoration, raising public awareness and rehabilitating sick and injured turtles.
ARCHIPELAGOS
Archipelagos, Institute of Marine Conservation, is a Greek non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to conservation of the marine and terrestrial environments of the Greek seas and islands. Archipelagos has been active since 1998 in several parts of the Greek seas (Ionian, Sporades, Central Aegean, Lybian and Eastern Aegean). Since 2000, Archipelagos' field of action has focused on the eastern Aegean. Our main terrestrial research base is located on the island of Ikaria and our main marine research base is on the island of Samos, while we also provide research stations in 3 islets of the eastern Aegean
